Yuzawa Family was a ski area located to the south-east of central Yuzawa Town in Niigata Prefecture. It was less than 1km from the Yuzawa IC exit of the Kanetsu Expressway. Yuzawa Family closed decades ago and nature has now taken over but an abandoned single ski lift remains in the place. Confirmed details about Yuzawa Family difficult to find, even after questioning locals!

Further Information

  • Yuzawa Family Ski Area was located less than 1km from the Yuzawa IC exit of the Kanetsu Expressway
    　
  • ...behind what some have been known to claim is the 'busiest 7-11 in Japan' (* totally unconfirmed!)
    　
  • Yuzawa Family is one of those old ski areas for which very little information can be confirmed... even after talking with locals
    　
  • Apparently this ski area was at one time used by the nearby Kandatsu Elementary School for ski lessons
    　
  • An abandoned single ski lift remains in place
    　
  • Nature has now well and truly taken over the lift structures and the upper area of the slope in particular
    　
  • Even in April a walk to the top section of the lift is difficult due to thick undergrowth
    　
  • The old aerial photograph from 1977 shows the open space that was used for skiing
    　
  • It also shows what looks like a small car park and building behind the ski lift
    　
  • One unconfirmed information source mentions a few additional simple lifts to the side of the single lift
    　
  • That area however is almost flat and it's hard to imagine there were lifts and skiing there
