Joudaira was a ski area close to the central area of Yuzawa Town in Niigata Prefecture. It was about a 5-minute walk from the main Echigo Yuzawa Station. There were two single lifts at Joudaira. The ski lifts and other facilities were removed after the ski area closed in the early 1990s. The Joetsu Shinkansen bullet train line comes out of the tunnel into Yuzawa from directly under the Joudaira slopes.

Further Information

  • Joudaira was located less than 500m from Echigo Yuzawa Station 越後湯沢駅, close to the centre of Yuzawa Town
    　
  • According to records found in the history museum in Yuzawa Town, Jodaira first opened in 1956
    　
  • In the early years, it seems there was a ski lift-related accident when the pulley became detached
    　
  • In 1973 the ski area had a 'renewal' involving the Number 1 and Number 2 lifts
    　
  • Some conflicting information about this ski area has been found - specifically, the shorter lift may have been a rope tow lift at one time
    　
  • A newly acquired guidebook from 1975 shows two single lifts that were 482m and 276m in length
    　
  • One ride on a lift was 70 yen; 11 rides was 700 yen
    　
  • There was night skiing at Joudaira
