First Ishiuchi

First Ishiuchi was a ski area in the southern area of Minamiuonuma city in Niigata Prefecture and very close to the northern border of Yuzawa Town. When it opened in 1964 it was originally known as Ishiuchi TBS. It changed name again to Odakyu Ishiuchi before eventually becoming First Ishiuchi in 1991. A pair lift from close to the roadside went up to the wider main base area that at one time featured four other lifts and a rope tow. First Ishiuchi was known for its colourful night skiing floodlights.

Further Information

  • In the early years this ski area was known as Ishiuchi TBS  石打TBSスキー場
    　
  • It also appears to have been known as Higashi Maruyama  東丸山スキー場
    　
  • Exact dates for the name remains unconfirmed, but the name Higashi Maruyama was used on a 1972 pamphlet
    　
  • That 1972 pamphlet also showed that there were three ski lifts
    　
  • After a change of ownership in 1972, the name was later changed to Odakyu Ishiuchi  小田急石打スキー場
    　
  • It eventually became First Ishiuchi in 1991
    　
  • The north-western facing slopes can be found about halfway between the larger Ishiuchi Maruyama and Maiko Snow Resort
    　
  • Night time floodlights at First Ishiuchi were a colourful mix of red, green and blue
    　
  • Two of the single lifts ran in parallel
    　
  • Some of the lifts were not operating in later years before closing
    　
  • Both lanes of the Kanetsu Expressway 関越自動車道  run directly under the lower area of First Ishiuchi in individual tunnels

About 2.5km from the Shiozawa Ishiuchi IC exit of the Kanetsu Expressway.
About 2km from Ishiuchi Station on the Joetsu line and 5.5km from Echigo Yuzawa Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen line.
