Shinhotaka Onsen was a ski area located in the Nakao Onsen area of Takayama City in the northeastern region of Gifu Prefecture. Two lifts serviced the slopes. Shinhotaka Onsen closed in the early 2000s, and the ski lifts were removed soon after. This area is not to be confused with the nearby Shinhotaka Ropeway.

Further Information

  • Shinhotaka Onsen Ski Area was located near the onsen hot spring area of the same name, in the Nakao Kogen  中尾高原  region of Takayama City
    　
  • It was about 5km to the south of the larger scale Shinhotaka Ropeway Ski Area  新穂高ロープウェイスキー場
    　
  • There were two pair lifts at Shinhotaka Onsen
    　
  • The exact positioning of the lifts is unconfirmed, but it looks like the longer one ran along the far left border of the ski area
    　
  • Other than that, no further information can be confirmed about this ski area
    　
  • Both were cleanly removed after the ski area closed
    　
  • Other than the 2km track approaching the base and what used to be a car park, nothing remains of this ski area in 2022
    　
  • In recent years nature has taken over, and it is now very difficult to imagine there was ever a ski area at this location
    　
  • Shinhotaka Ropeway is now closed as a ski area, but the two Ropeway lifts continue to operate for sightseeing and trekking
