Torigoe Dainichi

Sportsland

Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture

鳥越大日スポーツランド
石川県白山市

Torigoe Dainichi Sportsland was a ski area located on the north-eastern slopes of Okuradake in the Ate-machi area of what is now Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. At one time there was a plan to build a ropeway to connect it with the nearby Okuradake Kogen in Komatsu City. Torigoe Dainichi Sportsland went through a few official name changes and actually closed for a few seasons between 2006 and 2009, before closing for good in 2012.

Further Information

  • Torigoe Dainichi Sportsland was originally known as Torigoe Kogen Dainichi  鳥越高原大日スキー場

  • The name was officially changed name to Torigoe Dainichi Sportsland in 2007

  • Sometimes it is known as just Dainichi  大日スキー場

  • It closed for three seasons between 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 seasons for renovations, eventually re-opening in January 2010

  • Those renovations were due in part to damage by heavy rain in July 2006

  • Torigoe Dainichi Sportsland closed for good in February 2012

  • At the time of closing just two lifts were operating

  • During the 'ski boom' period in the late 1980's there were plans to connect Torigoe Dainichi Sportsland with Okuradake Kogen  大倉岳高原スキー場

  • Okuradake Kogen is geographically close and located within the borders of Komatsu City

  • The section of road connecting the two areas is closed during the winter months

  • Until 1931 there used to be a mine Ate Kouzan  阿手鉱山  at this location

  • In some photos online, it seemed like the entrance gate had been closed off, but during a visit to the location in July 2023, there was no barrier, and there were no 'no entry' signs, meaning the base area could be approached

  • At least the base lifts remain in place and are now covered in natural growth
