びばからすスキー場 北海道剣淵町

Bibakarasu (or Kembuchi-cho Bibakarasu) was a ski area located in Kembuchi Town in the northern region of Hokkaido. This ski area was visited mainly by beginners and local families as it featured primarily gentle slopes. It even offered free ski lessons for beginners at the weekend. Bibakarasu opened in 1982 and closed in 2007. The location is now home to Viva Alpaca Farm.

  • Bibakarasu was a town-operated ski area also known as Kembuchi-cho Bibakarasu  剣淵町びばからすスキー場
     
  • The ski lift and floodlights opened in 1982
     
  • Biba びば comes from the Japanese equivalent of the word 'viva'
     
  • Karasu からす is Japanese for crow
     
  • Lots of the birds used to gather in the area, hence the name
     
  • A cartoon of skiing crows became the symbol of the ski area
     
  • This was very much a family and beginner ski area with mostly gentle slopes
     
  • The floodlights covered the whole area
     
  • At one time, free beginner ski lessons were offered on Saturdays and holidays
     
  • The lift tickets were relatively cheap - 1,200 yen for a day and 15,000 yen for a season ticket
     
  • Viva Alpaca Farm  ビバアルパカ牧場  is now at the location
     
  • The base building is now known as Viva House  ビバハウス
