Ariston Hotel Tomoe

Ariston Hotel Tomoe, or just Tomoe, was a ski area close to Hakodate City in the southern region of Hokkaido. It was part of a ‘resort’ featuring a hotel and golf course. The ski area had two ski lifts and floodlights for night skiing. Natural snow was backed up with artificial snow-making machines. It is unclear when the resort closed, but it was sometime in the late 1990s to early 2000s.

  • This ski area was listed under two names in guidebooks; either Ariston Hotel Tomoe Ski Area or just Tomoe Ski Area
    　
  • It was only about 10-15km to the east of central Hakodate City and also close to the Hakodate Airport 函館空港
    　
  • The ski area had two pair lifts with a long and narrow shape
    　
  • It also featured artificial snow-making machines
    　
  • Until at least 1994, Tomoe was skiers-only, meaning that snowboarding was not allowed
    　
  • The resort hotel at the base featured a heated pool, sports gym, restaurants and bars
    　
  • There was also some kind of 'laser show'
    　
  • There was also an 18-hole golf course next to the ski area and hotel
    　
  • The ski area, hotel and golf course are now closed
    　
  • It is unclear when the resort closed, but the ski area was featured in a 1994 season Hokkaido guidebook and not listed in the 2003 season guidebook
    　
  • So it appears to have closed sometime between 1995 and 2002
