Yu Land Sakauchi

Ibigawa Town, Gifu Prefecture

遊らんど坂内スキー場 岐阜県揖斐川町

Yu Land Sakauchi was a small ski area located in the Sakauchi neighbourhood of Ibigawa Town in south western Gifu Prefecture. Until 2005 this area was known as Sakauchi Village. The ski area featured two pair lifts running in parallel with courses on each side. This region increasingly struggled with low levels of snowfall. Yu Land Sakauchi was last open during the 2009 winter season.

Further Information

  • Yu Land Sakauchi was located in Ibigawa Town, in what used to be Sakauchi Village 坂内村

  • The kanji 'Yu' in the name「遊」is used in words relating to play or recreation

  • It is not clear when this ski area opened but it did not yet exist on aerial images from 1975

  • Yu Land Sakauchi had a simple layout - two 380m pair lifts running in parallel and ski runs coming down on either side

  • In the years before closing, the ski area struggled to open as planned due to a lack of snowfall

  • Only one of the two lifts was operating towards the end

  • Yu Land Sakauchi was last open during the 2008-2009 winter season

  • The two pair lifts and the base building remain in place [update August 2022: they appear to have now been removed]

  • At one time artificial ski mats were on the slopes for skiing in the summer season

  • An old logo had 'SKI. GRASS SKI. PARA GLIDER' written on it in English letters

  • Sakauchi Village merged with five other towns and villages to become part of Ibigawa Town in January 2005
