Further Information

  • Shogahora Ski Area opened in 1956 as a ski area to be used for local elementary and junior school children

  • In 1967 a 200m ski lift was installed

  • It is not clear if the lift was a simple rope tow or a single lift

  • A section of the ski area was above the top of the ski lift

  • A short climb was required to access that area

  • Apparently, the lift broke down in the late 1980s, and after that the ski area closed

  • During the time the ski area was open, it was managed at different times by the local ward and the board of education

  • Solar panels can now be found at the location
